FISCAL NOTE
Senate Bill 284 as introduced would allow the Alabama Medicaid Agency to extend postpartum coverage to Medicaid eligible pregnant women who would otherwise lose coverage 60 days after delivery or miscarriage, for not less than 12 months. According to Medicaid this would increase their financial obligations, paid from the State General Fund, by an estimated $8.4 million, based on the number of pregnant women requiring postpartum coverage in fiscal years 2020 and 2021. Further, this bill would increase the administrative obligations to submit a state plan amendment to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services extending coverage to 12 months.
