FISCAL NOTE

Senate Bill 251 as introduced increases the loan repayment amount, beginning with the 2022 fall semester, of the Alabama Math and Science Teacher Education Program (AMSTEP), administered by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE), that qualifying teachers endorsed in math or science are eligible for from $5,000 per year or $2,500 per semester worked to $7,000 per year, or $3,750 per semester worked, for a maximum of four consecutive years. This would increase the obligations of AMSTEP, paid from the Education Trust Fund, by up to $10,000 for each teacher eligible to participate in the program.
