FISCAL NOTE

Senate Bill 126 as passed the Senate requires for the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Commission to meet quarterly rather than monthly, as currently provided by law, which would reduce the obligations of the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Fund by an estimated $2,625 in fiscal year 2022 and an estimated $5,250 each fiscal year thereafter, based on the average amount expended for Commission member compensation and travel reimbursement over the past four fiscal years.

In addition, this bill (1) allows the executive director of the Commission to determine eligibility of all claims and approve payments; and (2) requires the Commission to review all contested claims and authorizes the Commission to affirm, reverse, or modify the director's claims decisions.
