FISCAL NOTE

Senate Bill 223 would prohibit defendants convicted of manslaughter or a violent offense classified as a Class A felony from being released to the supervision of the Board of Pardons and Paroles (Board) prior to the expiration of their sentence. This would increase the obligations of the Department of Corrections by an estimated annual amount of $26,300 per inmate not released prior to the expiration of their sentence and decrease the obligations of the Board, by an estimated annual amount $1,300 per inmate not released to the supervision of the Board and requiring electronic monitoring.
