FISCAL NOTE

Senate Bill 119 as introduced would increase the obligations of the Alabama G.I. Dependents Scholarship Program by an undetermined amount by allowing dependents of veterans attending private two-year and four-year institutions to be reimbursed for tuition, books, and fees. The amount of the increase would be dependent upon the number of eligible dependents of veterans attending private two-year and four-year institutions which would be limited by either; (1) the in-state tuition rate for dependents making application for benefits for the first time beginning with the fall term of the 2014-2015 academic year; or (2) the Department of Defense Tuition Assistance Cap and the $1,000 cap on books and fees for those first filing for benefits under this chapter on or after July 31, 2017, and after first applying for other federal, state, institutional and 3rd party scholarships awarded by the private two-year or four-year institutions attended.

This bill would also increase the administrative obligations of the Alabama Department of Veterans affairs by an undetermined amount depending on the number of students that apply to this program pursuant to the provisions of this bill.
