FISCAL NOTE

Senate Bill 177 as introduced proposes a Constitutional Amendment which, if ratified, would establish the 9-member Alabama Court Cost Commission to review existing laws regarding court costs and proposals for new court costs. This would increase the obligations of the State General Fund by an estimated $2,200 per day for each meeting of the Commission.

This bill will increase the proclamation expenses of the Governor, paid from the State General Fund, by an estimated $100,000 for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2023.

As amended and reported by the Committee on Judiciary increases the membership of the Commission to 11 members. This could increase the obligations of the State General Fund by an additional $600 per day for each meeting of the Commission.
