FISCAL NOTE
House Bill 153 as amended and reported by the Committee on Ways and Means Education could increase the obligations of the Police Officer’s and Firefighter’s Survivor Educational Assistance Program, funded from the Education Trust Fund, by an estimated $10,123 annually for each dependent of a law enforcement officer, firefighter, or rescue squad member that becomes eligible due to the provisions of this bill and that pursues an undergraduate degree from a public higher education institution in Alabama.
In addition, this bill removes the current provision that out-of-state tuition practices be audited by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE) or the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts and instead requires ACHE to collect out-of-state tuition practices of each institution with the results posted annually on ACHE's website.
