FISCAL NOTE
House Bill 153 as introduced could increase the obligations of the Police Officer’s and Firefighter’s Survivor Educational Assistance Program, funded from the Education Trust Fund, by an estimated $10,123 annually for each dependent of a law enforcement officer, firefighter, or rescue squad member that becomes eligible due to the provisions of this bill and that pursues an undergraduate degree from a public higher education institution in Alabama.
In addition, this bill removes the current provision that out-of-state tuition practices be audited by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE) or the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts and instead requires ACHE to collect out-of-state tuition practices of each institution with the results posted annually on ACHE's website.
