FISCAL NOTE
House Bill 344 as passed the House of Representatives would provide (1) that persons who qualify for certain homestead exemptions may initially claim the exemption by mail, or electronically at the discretion of the tax assessing official; and (2) that persons required to verify eligibility of the exemption annually may do so electronically at the discretion of the tax assessing official. This bill could increase the administrative obligations of the Department of Revenue by an undetermined amount to assist tax assessors in developing recommendations to reduce fraud where homestead exemptions are claimed. This bill would not otherwise affect state or local funding.
