FISCAL NOTE

House Bill 77 as passed the House of Representatives, beginning January 1, 2022, (1) increases the current $0.25 annual fee for the distinctive firefighter license plates to $1.00 per license plate, and (2) revises the current distribution of this fee to provide that it shall be deposited as follows: (1) $0.50 into a fund managed by the Alabama Joint Fire Council and used to expand and maintain the Alabama Firefighter Memorial; and (2) $0.50 to the Alabama Joint Fire Council to be used for the Firefighter Peer Support Program, subject to audit. Based on the number of firefighter license plate registrations for Fiscal Year 2020, this additional fee will increase annual collections by approximately $33,500 cumulatively ($16,750) per entity.
