FISCAL NOTE

Senate Bill 236 as introduced would establish an application fee effective January 1, 2022, for distinctive license plates in the amount equal to the cost of producing a distinctive license plate template not to exceed $100 which would be used to cover the cost to the Alabama Department of Corrections to produce a template for a new distinctive license plate.

Additionally, this bill will make permanent the current license plate design for the Alabama Gold Star Family license, which will reduce receipts that would have been collected from the $3.00 issuance fee and distributed to the various counties and license plate issuance entities, and the Alabama Department of Revenue, by a small undetermined amount, for the Gold Star Family license plates that are not exempt from fees if the plate design was allowed to be changed.
